A 17-year-old was critically wounded in a Rogers Park shooting last week, police said.

The victim, Julio Hernandez, was approached last Thursday shortly after midnight by a white van in the 6900 block of Paulina, police said. Someone in the van fired two or three shots at Hernandez, a suspected gang member. He was hit once in the back and transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

It is believed that the shooting was gang related and involved the Latin Kings and the Ashland Viking Nation. It is being investigated by Area 3 detectives.

Hernandez is currently recovering from surgery in the Surgical Heart Unit at St. Francis Hospital.
