Police to conduct DUI crackdown

Beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Friday the Chicago Police Department will conduct a DUI Strike Force Patrol in the 1st (Central) and 18th (Near North) Police Districts.

Drivers should use extra caution when traveling in these two adjacent lakefront districts.  The 1st District extends from 25th St. at its southern border north to the Chicago River.  The 18th District continues north to Fullerton Blvd. and west to the Chicago River.

The Patrol, which will consist of roving police officers monitoring traffic for signs of drunken driving, will last until 3:00 a.m. Saturday.

Besides DUI violations, cops will be on the lookout for traffice violations of all types.  During a recent DUI Strike Force Patrol on the northwest side, only seven of the 113 recorded traffic violations were alcohol-related.

Comments about DUI crackdown at Bengals games That’s the message behind a new law enforcement crack down on drunken driving before and after Cincinnati Bengals home games this year. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Tuesday it is teaming with Cincinnati police and Kentucky State Police to patrol interstates and metro areas near Paul Brown Stadium. The joint drunken-driving patrols on game days follow similar efforts near Ohio State University and in Cleveland to put out safety messages in regards to safe driving on game days. The increased patrols come a month after the 2008 Bengals’ fan code of conduct was expanded to cover behavior outside the stadium."We want everyone to have a good time at the games, but we want everyone to get home safely," said Lt. Randy McElfresh, commander of the patrol’s Batavia post. "Designate a sober driver or call a taxi. Don’t get behind the wheel impaired because we will arrest you."Games can draw more than 60,000 fans downtown.Statistics from the Ohio State Highway Patrol show the patrol made more drunken-driving arrests and responded to more drunken-driving crashes in Hamilton County on home game days than on away game days during the 2007 season.
