Torii Hunter is gone, but Ken Williams continues to make noise about the Sox reeling in a “big fish.†The signing of Scott Linebrink is expected to be announced tomorrow, but he cries out “big fish†about as much as my column cries out “nationwide syndication!â€
So who is Williams talking about? There are only four fish in the sea that I see: Aaron Rowand, Andruw Jones, Miguel Cabrera and Carl Crawford.
Cabrera and Crawford are fish, in a matter of speaking. One’s a Marlin, the other’s a Devil Ray. And Jones’ body is starting to resemble a whale’s with his Juan Uribe-like conditioning. But, as we all know, a whale is a mammal, not a fish. So he’s out.
Then there’s Rowand. He and the Sox go together like fish and chips. But Rowand alone is not going to reinvigorate the Sox line up, and his contract will likely prohibit the Sox from making a splash elsewhere.
Williams has his line in the ocean, let’s see who bites first.

What about Mike Cameron? Seems like he and the Padres will part ways. He's a Chicago guy.
