The sound of the Cubs' bats would not have left the Skydome had the retractable roof even been open, but not so for one man: Jimmy E.
It's time to tip your hats ladies and gents, because Jim
Edmonds is earning his keep as a Cub. While it's never pleasant
accepting a long-time Cardinal into your family, Edmonds is the
only Cubs player that continues to contribute, especially on the
road. While the Cubs signed him hoping his stroke would come back,
we're all quickly finding the other benefits of having around a vet
like Edmonds: great feeling, a knowledge of other ballparks (think
the backwards running catch on the hill in Houston) and the list
will surely grow. If the rest of the order can more consistently
get on base before him, he might prove to be the Cubs' best kept
secret. He almost single-handedly won the game against Atlanta
yesterday and had Toronto not used three lefties late in the game,
he would have gotten another chance to hit in the 8th and probably
have tied it up.
I could take this post to complain more, namely about how Sean
Gallagher did not pitch as good a game today as many TV analysts
said or question Lou's over-micro-managing, but this one's for
Jimmy E, the big boy. He deserves it.
