Mayor Richard M. Daley this morning appointed Chicago Transit Authority chief Ron Huberman as the new CEO of the Chicago Public Schools.
Huberman replaces Arne Duncan, who left to become the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The new schools chief began his city career as a police officer, and rose quickly to direct the police department's technology efforts, and later the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications.
His tenure at the CTA has been marked by funding shortfalls and fare increases.
