The Uptown neighborhood beat had 11 reported cases of battery but only one burglary during a month-long period that ended January 11, according to reports issued during a recent community policing meeting.
Residents who attended saw the numbers as good news, but expressed concern about
ongoing incidents of graffiti.
Police told residents it is difficult to prosecute because
offenders must be caught in the act.
The district includes the area between the lake and Broadway
and between north of Wilson and south of Lawrence.
A high-rise safety seminar will be presented by the district
community policing office at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 3121 N. Sheridan
Rd.
The meeting will cover such topics as evacuation plans, fire and
bomb safety.
