CHA eyes energy efficiency improvements

The Chicago Housing Authority’s Operations and Facilities Committee made alterations to two already planned projects and also invested in new energy-related capital improvements during its monthly committee meetings Wednesday.
The committee approved additional renovation work on the Bridgeport Homes, at 3163 S. Lituanica Ave. The work, which includes the installation of sewer connections, drywall excavation and insulation of utility room walls, will cost more than $1 million over the original estimate.
Also modified was the CHA’s contract with Walsh Construction Co. for renovation of the Phillip Murray Homes. The addition will provide for exterior lighting around the homes and parking lots located at 1037-39 E. 133rd St. The proposed change will not increase the project’s cost due to a credit from Walsh.
The committee also approved a proposal that would give buildings designated by the CHA a boost with energy-related capital improvements. The contract signed with energy providers Siemens and Ameresco is designed to replace obsolete equipment with energy effficient models.
Ameresco and Siemens will divide the work equally with Ameresco taking Vivian Carter Apartts., Dearborn Homes, W. Castleman Apartments, Albany Terrace Apartments, Garfield Apartments, Parkview Apartments, Patrick Sullivan Apartments, Robert Lawrence Apartments, and Lake Michigan Apartments.
Siemens will work on Washington Park Senior Apartments, Sheridan/ Leland Apartments, Larrabee Apartments, Zelda Ormes Apartments, Las Americas, Judge Slater Apartments & Annex, Judge Green Apartments, Minnie Julie Ruperton, Mary Richardson Apartments, Kenneth Campbell Apartments, Trumbull Park Homes, and Yates Apartments.
