Chicago lawyer is city's new human resources commissioner

A Chicago labor and employment lawyer was named to the position of commissioner of human resources yesterday.

Homero Tristan, 37, a partner in the law firm of Tristan and Gonzalez since 2002, "is the right person for the job," Mayor Richard M. Daley said at a press conference announcing the appointment.

Tristan will be in charge of employment and recruiting initiatives, hiring and promotion, labor relations and enhancing the productivity of employees, among other things, Daley says.

Tristan, a Chicago native and graduate of Loyola University and the DePaul University College of Law, said he was looking forward to work in the public sector.

In addition to his experience in private practice, Tristan served as a prosecutor to the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago, which handles violations of federal labor laws and unfair labor practices. He is also a past president of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois.

"I expect Homero to continue the good progress we have made over recent years in human resources," Daley said.
