A firefighter battling an attic fire on the North Side this morning slipped on ice and was seriously injured.

The injured firefighter was taken by ambulance to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, said Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

Fire units were dispatched to the blaze at 2926 N. Damen at 9:39 a.m.  The flames were confined to the attic, Rosado said.

The department refused to identify the firefighter, so information on his current condition could not be obtained from the hospital.
