Six people, including a baby in a carriage and three small children, were injured after being struck by a car while attempting to cross a Bridgeport street today, police said.

The driver of the car left the scene and was still being sought late Tuesday, Chicago Police spokesman John Mirabelli said. The car was described as a beige sedan.

The children, ages 6 months to 3 years old, were transported to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital where two were listed in critical condition and two were in serious condition after the 11:30 a.m. accident, according to Chicago Police spokesman Marcel Bright.

The two adults, believed to be the mother of two of the children and her father, according to fire officials, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and University of Chicago Hospital, where they were reported in good condition.

The accident, which occurred in the 3400 block of South Lithuanica Avenue, was still under investigation late Tuesday.
