Contractors have made repairs to a buckled gym floor that delayed the opening of the Gale Community Center in Rogers Park.
Melted snow seeped into the building during construction and caused damage to the floor at the center, which was to open earlier this month.
Officials are now working on a new opening date, says Kevin Smith, spokesman for the Public Building Commission.
"We're still in the process of coordinating with the Park District and public officials for the opening ceremony," says Smith.
Also in the works at the center, 1616 W. Howard, is a possible partnership with The Boys and
Girls Club of Chicago.
In recent
weeks, officials have discussed whether the club might offer programming for community residents at the center.
April Janney, Vice President of Operations at the club, confirmed that the
Chicago Park District is reviewing the written proposal submitted
by the club several months ago.
Alderman Joe Moore says he's in favor of the arrangement.
"I think if this works out, it would be a tremendous opportunity
for the neighborhood to provide programming for young folks from an
organization that has a sterling reputation," says Moore.
