Harbor and field fees to rise
Boaters and park users will pay more under a 2008 park district budget that calls for fee hikes of about 3 percent and holds the line on taxes.
Currently, boaters pay an average annual rate of $78 per foot to tie up at Park District slips. Under the budget approved Wednesday, they will pay an average of $80 per foot.
The cost for an athletic area permit will rise $5. Currently, the rate for soccer, baseball, football and softball fields ranges from $60 to $160 per game.
The district's $397 million budget includes funds for a variety of new programs and activities, including an early childhood recreational fitness program, new running and walking programs and the expansion of existing programs for teens and boxers.
The board also approved plans to expand a boat harbor at Navy Pier to accommodate the 600 boaters on a waiting list and the 1000 more waiting to transfer. The $85 million project, expected to be complete by 2010, is to be financed through the issue of revenue bonds.
