A 27-year-old gang member assaulted two police officers at 1:40 a.m. Sunday in front of 7711 N. Marshfield, police said.
The officers approached the offender because he tried to hide in an unoccupied apartment building after seeing them.
The man hit one of the officers and tried to run away. The officers grabbed him, and a loaded Beretta 9mm pistol fell from his waistband, police said.
The offender was charged with assaulting a police officer, possession of marijuana, failure to register a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon, said police.
