Man accused of strangling his mother

A 35-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the strangling death of his mother Monday, Chicago Police  spokesman Officer Marcel Bright said.

Sydney Carter, is accused of strangling his 60-year-old mother, Betty Carter, at her South Side home Monday night.

Police responded to a battery in progress at around 3 a.m. Monday morning, Bright said. Police found the victim unresponsive at her residence at 1859 E. 71st St., Bright said.

Carter told police his mother had abused him for many years, Bright said.
