A 29-year-old man was attacked at knifepoint early Sunday by three muggers who knocked him to the ground, beat him and stole his wallet, according to a police report.

The victim was walking in the 5100 block of North California Avenue smoking a cigarette when he was approached by two men and a woman.

After one of the men asked the victim for a cigarette, the other pulled out a knife and demanded his valuables,  the report said.

The assailants then pushed the victim to the ground where all three began kicking and hitting him. One of the suspects pulled the man's wallet from a back pocket, and the three fled. The wallet contained no money.

The victim refused medical attention, the report said.
