The mother of a two-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder yesterday after the boy was found beaten in their South Side home.

Police say Lakeshia Murph, 24, of the 7800 block of South Carpenter Street, beat her son Brandon Nelson-Murph into unconsciousness on Friday.

Chicago Police spokesman Wayne Frisbie said the boy's father found Nelson-Murph unresponsive in his bed when he came home from work around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The father took him to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. The child was later transported to Children's Memorial where he was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m.

An autopsy done Sunday concluded the boy died from multiple injuries and blunt trauma, police said.
