New development angers Wrigleyville residents

Residents who live near a proposed apartment and hotel project by Wrigley Field are voicing concerns over traffic and design issues.
At a Wednesday night meeting hosted by Ald. Tom Tunney [D-44th], residents heard details of the proposed development.
Some said they are worried that the project, located across Clark Street from Wrigley Field, could be taller than surrounding buildings and would house a 130-unit hotel.
Tunney said the project has been scaled down over the past year. It must pass zoning approval and other hurdles before developers can begin building, Tunney said.
Developer Steven Schultz said he has worked to factor concerns of residents and local businesses into the project. Traffic studies are in progress, and Shultz said he is working with city transportation officials to pick hotel entrance and exit locations that won't snarl traffic.
The project could take roughly two years to build. Zoning and development plans are expected to be available to the public on the 44th Ward's official website as the project proceeds.
Residents with further concerns may attend public meetings with the Hawthorne Neighbors Association as well as the Lakeview Citizens Council.
