Police shoot man on South Side

Police officers shot a man early this morning on the corner of South Halsted and 76th Street.

Circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear this afternoon; police refused to release details of how the shooting occurred or the identities of the victim and the officers involved.

The victim was taken to St. Bernard's Hospital & Health Care Center around 5 a.m., and later transferred to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

The city’s Independent Police Authority Review is investigating the shooting. Spokesman Mark Payne declined to comment on the incident.
