According
to Lynn Pierce, the resident who raised the issue at the Beat 2013 meeting, there have been reports of
high school kids bullying students at the adjacent Swift Elementary School.
The resident mentioned that recently three students were pelted
with stones after being chased out of Swift Playlot, in the 5900 block
of North Winthrop Avenue. The students
then took shelter in a nearby restaurant on Thorndale Avenue.
Swift Playlot has a sign posted near its entrance stating that
persons cannot occupy the playground after 9:30 PM, which is when
the playground closes. The sign also states that no one over the
age of 15 is allowed on the premises.
The sign has been removed or vandalized several times, according to residents.
Police said they would notify officers who work Beat 2022, which includes the school.
