Store sold fake Nikes, cops say
One person is in custody and two are being questioned after a South Side retail outlet was found to be selling counterfeit shoes, police said Thursday.
Officers of the 11th district seized 942 pairs of counterfeit Nike gym shoes and $7,000 in cash from Brothers Two, a retail outlet at 604 S. Pulaski, said Officer Daniel Stanek. Two loaded guns, a 9-milimeter and a .32 caliber revolver, were also recovered.
At around 2:00 p.m. today, police noticed individuals exiting the store with Nike boxes. Nike representatives had notified police that the store was selling shoes with the Nike insignia but did not have a contract with Nike, police said.
According to police, the suspects first attempted to hide in the basement to avoid arrest, but then surrendered without incident.
Charges are pending.
