A 15-year-old boy was shot to death Monday night in the Logan Square neighborhood in what police are saying may be a gang-related crime.

Leonardo Otero, of the 2600 block of North Springfield Avenue, was with several people in the 2900 block of North Springfield Avenue around 7 p.m. when he was shot,  Chicago Police spokesman Marcel Bright said.

Bright said a van pulled up to the group and let out a passenger who shouted a gang slogan and then began shooting.

Witnesses gave conflicting descriptions of the van and of the shooter, who fired several times before fleeing in the van, Bright said.

Police do not know if Otero was targeted, Bright said.

Otero, who was struck in the chest, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center shortly after the shooting, Bright said.

No one else was wounded.
