Two people were killed and another seriously injured this morning in a one-car accident on the South Side.

The Hyundai Sonata was traveling in the 1500 block of West 59th Street when it lost control just west of Justine Street and hit the brick wall of Old Way Missionary Church at 1543 West 59th St., according to fire department spokesman Larry Langford.

The vehicle, an older model lacking airbags, sustained extensive front end damage in the 9 a.m. accident, Langford said.

When an ambulance arrived on the scene, both the driver, a female, and front passenger, an elderly male, were unresponsive, and later pronounced dead, Langford said.

A backseat passenger was conscious and taken in stable condition to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.

The accident is still under investigation.
