An elderly woman trying to light a candle Monday caught her blouse on fire and suffered first and second-degree burns over 90 percent of her body, according to a police report.

Police arrived at the house, at 2945 W. Gregory St., around 5:20 p.m. to find Glenda Weical-Fowler and her husband, Noel Fowler, outside the home, where Fowler was attempting to put out the flames with his hands. He suffered burns to both hands, the report says.

Police assisted in putting the fire out and Weical-Fowler was taken by ambulance to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition Wednesday.
