A 35-year-old woman was struck and killed by a school bus this morning on the West Side.

The woman was crossing the street at South Western Avenue and West Jackson Boulevard at 8:38 a.m. when the bus hit her, Chicago police spokesman Eugene Mullins said.

The woman was rushed to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and died at 9:14 a.m. Police declined to identify both the victim and the driver.

The bus was traveling north on Western Avenue and hit the woman while making a right on Jackson Boulevard. Children were on the bus at the time, but none were injured, Mullins said.

The driver was issued a citation for striking a pedestrian in the roadway. The 65-year-old driver was not under the influence of drugs and alcohol Mullins said.
