A fire in a South Side apartment building injured three people early this morning, including two residents who were snatched from their windows by firefighters.

Firefighters slung ladders against two sides  of the two-story brick building, according to department spokesman Richard Rosado.

Two residents were carried down the ladders, says Rosado. While the rescue was in progress, a woman jumped from the second floor, he says.

She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, along with one of the victims who was rescued by ladder. Both were in critical condition, Rosado says.

The other victim rescued by ladder was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in serious condition.

The second floor of the building and the back porch suffered extensive damage.

The fire was controlled at 2:34 a.m. Its cause is under investigation, Rosado says.
