Woman seriously injured in Humboldt Park blaze

A woman suffered burns and smoke inhalation in a fire at her Humboldt Park early this morning.

Emergency workers were summoned to 833 N. Drake. at 3:45 a.m. More than 60 Fire Department personnel controlled the blaze within 15 minutes.

The woman, who is in her 70's, is listed in serious condition at Stroger Hospital, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

The fire was contained to the first floor of the 1-1/2 story single-family home, the department said.

It's unclear how much damage the flames did to the building, and whether the home had working smoke detectors, the spokesman said. The fire's cause is under investigation.
