Greetings fellow lovers of rock and/or roll! My name is Brandon Forbes and I'm the newest blog member of this grassroots journalistic behemoth known as the Chi-Town Daily News. Transplanted from the indie haven of Durham, North Carolina to the glamorous (and occasionally chilly) Chicago scene last year, I have come to appreciate the seemingly infinite supply this town has of good rock n'roll.
Though my heart always is with indie rock, I also enjoy any of the following genres: rap, punk, alt-country, dance, electronic, metal, etc...basically, if it's not opera, I dig it. It's hard for someone with wide ranging tastes to pin down favorite bands but, historically, REM has been my favorite group, though their releases of the past few years have been sub-par to say the least. Other bands/groups that rank high on my list: Wilco, Elliott Smith, Sleater-Kinney, Spoon, Uncle Tupelo, Outkast, Guided By Voices, Cat Power, Kanye West, The New Pornographers, Low, Belle & Sebastian, the Pixies, the Cure, Radiohead...you get the idea.
The goal of this blog, however, will be to focus on the best the Chi-Town scene has to offer: local bands, local labels, local venues. Toward that end, I hope to share Chicago-centric album reviews, show reviews, and new release information with you daily, with a few special features thrown in to boot. Here's to Chicago rock!
