Better lucky than good

Somehow I ended up backstage during the De La Soul show at Pitchfork over the weekend.

Funny -- I'd been thinking earlier in the festival that the best photo would be one shot from the artist's point of view.

And then, through sheer randomness, I found myself in the position to make that photograph, and about 200 others from a spot 2 feet off the stage.

I've covered presidents, reported from abroad, and interviewed some pretty interesting folks in 15 years of journalism. But watching and shooting De La Soul from that angle was one of the coolest things I've done.
