Deathbed or rebirth?


The Tribune is either in its death throes or about to enjoy a renaissance under bearded real-estate guru Sam Zell.

It's too early to tell, but I'm leaning toward the latter opinion. The new boss is better than the old boss, but that doesn't mean he's got what it takes to save the company. I'm not sure who would at this point.

Chicago should always be a 2+ newspaper town. Any city with more baseball teams than newspapers is in deep, deep trouble.



That's why we're saving our pennies to buy the Sun-Times... on the premise that we probably won't need nickels, dimes or quarters to get the job done.

yes, but what about the sun-times? Somebody said a "one-newspaper town" sounds folksy and insignificant. I hope that's not what Chicago becomes.
