Evil Apple updates

So I have a big, beautiful iMac on my desk, and it's pretty much ruined my week -- and if you run Apple's automatic system update, it'll likely ruin yours, too.

I send and receive dozens of e-mails every day, often to people who may not be in my address book. So I've been really happy with Apple Mail's ability to remember an address after I type the first letter or two of the person's name. It saves me several hours a month of pecking around in my contact list and old e-mail to find addresses.

Or it did, until I ran Apple's system updater. Which gave me a shiny new version of OS X. And DELETED ALL OF THOSE ADDRESSES from my computer. Forever. Without warning me. At all.

So now, pretty much any time I send someone an e-mail, I spend a minute or two looking for their address.

I hate to say it, but Microsoft never did anything this annoying to me. I've been cussing for the last hour and a half.

That's exactly the amount of time I spent on hold with Apple, waiting for a tech support rep.

Jesus.
