Off to the poorhouse


Here's an interesting look at the financial state of hyperlocal news sites. As it turns out, most of us aren't making any money.

I continue to believe that there's a huge opportunity for sites like the Daily News to sell online ads to local businesses -- but it's going to take some hand-holding and good salesmanship to get there. And, of course, very few sites like ours have the money to hire salespeople.

It's the old chicken and egg dilemma. But eventually a few local sites are going to steal a chicken or borrow some eggs, and then we'll know if what we're doing makes any sense.
