interesting to see reporters, non-profit types, grassroots types,
and do gooder PR types in the same room. Overheard some great
conversations, and heard the phrase 'staying on message' almost
enough times to make my head pop.
Community Media Workshop is a
novel organization. They explicitly focus on connecting community
organizations and organizers to the press.
We don't often talk about infrastructure when we think about
community building. Its not enough to be out there organizing in
our respective communities if we aren't developing the kinds of
institutions that can support that work for the long haul.
Its important to build and support these resources so that social
change work can survive the vicissitudes of internal politics,
burnout, and the peaks and valleys that this work always
experiences.
Community Media Workshop is a big part of building that
infrastructure thats supporting the current generation of
organizers/activists/troublemakers/do-gooders around Chicago.
Let's hope they'll be here for the next.
