That Championship Season Part I

By Jane Danielson-Rickard | Oct 10, 4:49 PM

In 2008 the Chicago Wolves spent seven months fighting their way to the top of the Western Conference and staying there.  These are a few of the images captured along the way to the journey to the playoff race.

The second round of the playoffs the Wolves faced their newest rival the Rockford Icehogs. This was to prove the greatest test until the finals. In this image an IceHog flys over the net in an attempt to defend the goal. Not only did he skate away from his flight he finished the game, a credit to his flexibility and conditioning coach. / By Jane Rickard/Powderhornhockey

Third man in? Andre Deveaux defends Kevin Doell during the third round game against the Toronto Marlies. Andre must of impressed the Toronto coach as he will be joining the Marlies this year as their enforcer. / By Jane Rickard/Powderhornhockey

Nathan Oystrick, a chicago crowd favorite moments after "dancing" with Colin Fraiser of the Icehogs. Yes, Fraiser looks worse. / By Jane Rickard/Powderhornhockey

When the Providence Baby Bruins came to town that cold March night many felt it was going to be a preview of the Calder Cup finals. Alas, that was not to be, but those that were there were treated to a night of great hockey! / By Jane Rickard/Powderhornhockey

Tomorrow night the puck drops on the Wolves 09' season.  Yes Virginia, hockey starts tomorrow night!  It will be an away game to be sure in Houston but hockey is back!

The Chicago Wolves home opener is 7:00 October 18th, at the Allstate Arena, there should be plenty of good seats available, or at least that's what Dickie Dunn told me.
