New amenities for UC 300 level; Why not at AA too?

Ed Sherman, at Crain's Chicago Business, talks about the rebranding of the 300 level of the United Center. Now called the Madhouse on Madison, there will be new amenities and services.

Speaking as a Wolves fan, I've always wondered why the Wolves don't brand certain sections. I loved the old days when fans in the 200 level said they were in the attic. But all this activity came from the fans, not the club. Why haven't the Wolves, the team that bills itself for the fans, helped the fans assume identities in their sections?

Kalamazoo and Toledo Announce Affiliations

The speculation is over, the Kalamazoo K-Wings in their newly minted East Coast Hockey League affiliation have joined forces with the San Jose Sharks and the Philadelphia Flyers.  Practically this means they will be funneling players to and from Wrochester Sharks and the Philadelphia Phantoms both of the American Hockey League.

The move of K-Zoo from the IHL to the ECHL is great news for IceHog and Wolves fans, as it means the Gwinette Gladiators the shared farm team for the Wolves and Hogs will be a four hour drive away a couple of times a season. To...more

Wendell Young Named Chicago Wolves General Manager

As reported here earlier this week the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves have named Wendell Young as General Manager .  Young seems a natural choice for the position having been with the club since its inception. First as its crown jewel in net, leading the team to Turner Cup championships as goalie in 1998 and 2000. Then as an assistant coach for the Calder Cup in 2008. All this hardware with a pair of Memorial and Stanley Cup rings on his dresser at home. His succession to G M with these championships behind him mean far more than just the...more

Wendell Young To be named General Manager of Chicago Wolves

Sources have told the ChiTownDailyNews that Wendell Young will be named General Manager of the Chicago Wolves tomorrow.

The 46 year-old Halifax, Nova Scotia native has a storied hockey career; in 1981 as a member of the Kitchener Rangers he won Canada’s Memorial Cup. His first professional championship, the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup came with the Hershey Bears in 1988.  Shortly after in 1991 and 1992 as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins he collected two National Hockey League Stanley Cup rings. In 1994 Young joined the fledgling Chicago Wolves.  Young continued as their first line goalie...more

Blackhawks snatch Cheveldayoff from Wolves; Nothing less than cups, rings and banners

Saturday, a hard wind was blowing off the prairie, leading to a hard game of softball at the Wolfpack annual summer picnic. The Wolves mascot, Skates, was doing a great job handling softballs at shortstop. I sat on a low ridge looking at the game, watching the tall prairie grass move in waves in the distance.

It was a moment from the past of America, the game, meaningless except for boasting rights, opened before me as it had opened for generations of Americans probably from before the American Civil War. There was the smell of beer and charcoal grills...more
