The Chicago Housing Authority will continue funding for its nonprofit arm, Windows of Opportunity, but is adding more accountability for the financially troubled organization.
Chicago Housing Authority commissioners voted yesterday to buy vacant and foreclosed apartment units to for large families waiting to return to public housing.
Windows of Opportunity posted a deficit for three years in a row and has lost some key funders. The organization has also run afoul of IRS rules requiring nonprofits to make their tax returns available to the public.
Commissioners voted to open the purse for Windows of Opportunity, which offers college scholarships, exposes children to classical music and funds Little League teams.
