The economy has added to a nursing shortage, which has seen a shortfall of about 9,000 nurses in the Chicago area already. By 2025, the Chicago area could need more than 11,000 more nurses.
Some are looking for extra work or may take on extra loans to pay for tuition this year. Others may transfer or drop out if they can’t come up with enough money, students say.
